The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli

The Last Namsara is about a girl named Asha who hunts dragons, but her goal specifically a powerful dragon named Kozu. As a child, she would tell forbidden stories of the "Old days" that poisoned her mother to death. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't stop herself from reading and telling them as if they were addictive. But the stories came with the price of attracting dragons. Asha soon stopped telling the stories which enraged the dragons and Kozu, the greatest of them all, breathed hot fire on her leaving a long scar along her face. Since then, she has promised revenge.
The book was slow at first but picked up pace towards the middle. Asha is under the stereotype against hating slaves but she also grows out of it as she falls in love with one. The Last Namsara is action packed and great for anyone who enjoys elemental fantasy.

An Ember in the Ashes - Sabaa Tahir

An Ember in the Ashes is a dystopian novel about the world where one group of people rule everything. The story is told through the point of views of Laia is a scholar slave, and Elias an empathetic soldier. With Laia's parents gone, grandparents killed, and bother missing, Laia has to turn to desperate measures to ensure her safety along with her brother's. And Elias, having lived under his mother's torturous rule for too long, is hoping to escape.
This novel was really good at creating intriguing characters. Characters such as the Augurs, made me question my moral standings. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a great adventure to start off their school year.

Allies and Assassins - Justin Somper

This story begins with death. Prince Anders dies leaving an inadequate candidate, at best, to run a nation being threatened from all sides. The new Prince, Jared is more than confused as to how to run a nation. But don't worry (!), Justin Somper chooses this moment to throw in a very beautiful girl with a knack for helping. Yay! I bet you can't guess what happens next.
Other than some obvious turns in the novel, Justin Somper does a great job at creating his characters and the sentences that bind them together. The novel is good for people who like books with a little fantasy, a little mystery, and a lot of love lost.
