I Am The Messenger

Ed Kennedy is just a regular 19 year old cab driver (pretending he’s 20, but don’t tell anyone). His life so far has been useless, he feels like he is worth nothing, and won’t ever be worth anything. However, life has other plans for him. After unintentionally stopping a bank robbery, he starts receiving mysterious playing cards with names written on them. He is meant to save these people in any way they can be saved.  Can he save himself in the process?

Night Visions- Imagine Dragons

Imagine Dragons formed in 2008 in Las Vegas. The band released its album, Night Visions, in 2012. It has several extremely catchy songs. Some of them include their singles "Demons" and "Radioactive" along with "It's Time". A few songs may be considered a bit too slow, but I think that overall the album is a great collection of songs to listen to and enjoy.

What's Your New Years Resolution?

What's Your New Years Resolution?  We all come up with a big list every year but most give up too easily.  Try taking baby steps with yours! My resolution is to try to read 3 books a month! Yours should be too -- well as many as you can!  It is never too late for a New Years Resolution since the year has just started! :)

Crank by Ellen Hopkins

Have you read this book yet? Well, you should! Crank is written in a prose format that tells the story of a young high school junior girl named Kristina.  Kristina was always a good girl with a bright future and straight A's.  She narrates her story on what happened to her when she visits her dad's place for a few weeks only to be replaced with Bree.  While visiting her father, Kristina's simple and innocent life seems to change for the worst in just a snap.  She is introduced to the ''monster'' also known as crank which can also be known as crystal meth..  From there, her life spirals out of control and she does nothing to stop.  Crank is loosely based on the author's daughter's story of addiction to crystal meth.  The book has been banned in many locations due to complaints of the book's drug use, language, and sexual themes, so please ask your parents if necessary.

The Tear Collector

Cassandra knows a lot about responsibility to her family. A lot. Because she is part of a cult of emotional vampires who survive off the tears and emotional energy of humans. She is fine with providing the sustenance for her family up until a tragedy occurs and forces her to make a choice.  Does she want to continue her existence surviving on the pain and suffering of her friends, or will she choose to let herself love?
(recommended for high school readers)
