Gates of Paradise by Melissa De La Cruz

Gates Of Paradise
By: Melissa De La Cruz
Phew! Wow!
This book was AMAZING!! I'm so glad I had the chance to read the Blue Blood series and that I enjoyed all them. This book takes place in London where Schuyler is running out of time because the Dark Prince of Hell wants to take over the gates of paradise for good. Even though the Dark Prince of Hell has his great angels Abbadon and Azrael (Jack and Mimi Force) by his side to join him. Or he thinks. Lucifer ("The Dark Prince) assigns Jack and Mimi to kill their one and only true love so their bond can be broken. I love how the author includes all the characters Schuyler, Bliss, Oliver, Jack, Mimi, Kingsley, Gabrielle, Michael, the wolves and plenty more. Its just so exciting to read all these characters stories and what happens to all of them. I really recommend to those people who love the supernatural and the romance type of thing. I'm sad that the series is over but amazing. Thank you Melissa De La Cruz for making a wonderful series.

Touched by Corrine Jackson

This book is about a forbidden love between Remy O'Malley and Asher Blackwell. Remy is a 17 years old girl with an ability to heal people by touching them. Asher is a Protector who had never feels love until he meets Remy. With every touch, Remy is weakening Asher's power and fills him with pain, putting their lives in more danger than ever. I love the dangerous relationship between them because of their irresistible attraction toward each other is so thrilling and exciting. I recommend this book to those that would like to experience a taste of romance, the troublesome teenager's life, and the struggle of whether you should choose your family or the love of your life.

I am Number 4 by Pittacus Lore

Many years ago, 9 members of the Garde and their Cepans (guardians) escaped to Earth after the home planet, Lorien, was destroyed by an opposing species. Now the Mogadorians have come to kill them all and make Earth their new home planet. They killed 1 in Malaysia. They killed 2 in England. They killed 3 in Kenya. John Smith is number 4. He's next.

I am Number 4 is full of action, suspense, and romance. I highly recommend reading this book.

Note: There is some language, so if you or your parents don't like that, then you might not want to read it unless your parents say otherwise. To be fair, he is getting attacked by aliens a lot...

Youth Advisory Panel Update

4th of July

The 4th of July fireworks were a huge hit. The field and the hills at the Westminster Recreation Center were covered with people, waiting for the big show. Volunteering there, we sold drinks and snacks as well as glow-sticks for the show that night, all of which we sold out. And all of the proceeds will go to the Westminster Youth Scholarship.

Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

This classic story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde expresses the ideologies of good and evil, contrasting the two in Dr. Henry Jekyll/ Edward Hyde. It is a dark novella, but it is quite thrilling.  What caught my attention most was that it was written in third person, but it focused on how other characters saw Dr. Jekyll/ Mr. Hyde instead of focusing on his point of view. And if you are ever in need of something to read in one sitting, this novella will do the trick and capture your attention until the end.

The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau

In Cia’s dystopian society it’s an honor to be chosen for The Testing. But it’s not enough to pass the Test. Cia will have to survive it.
“Charbonneau jumps into the packed dystopia field with a mashup of Veronica Roth’s Divergent (2011) and Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games trilogy, but she successfully makes her story her own.” — Kirkus Reviews

In Loving Memory
Cory Monteith
May 11, 1982 - July 13 2013
For all the Gleeks out there, July 13th was a devastating day. "Finn Hudson" played by Cory Monteith on "Glee" was found dead in his room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia. He was scheduled to be checked out of his hotel room earlier that day. When he did not show up, hotel staff entered his room and found his body. Many celebrities such as Ariana Grande, Zoey Deschanel, Mario Lopez and plenty more tweeted about what happend and a rest in peace. All of my prayers go to his girlfriend Lea Michele, friends and family. R.I.P Cory! You will be missed.

Website of the month - July

The Website of the month this month is, College in Colorado. This website is Awesome and is defiantly worth checking out for all teens. Perhaps one of the best features is a timeline from Middle school of what teens need to focus on to be ready to apply to, and attend College. Some other things that it has are, a searchable index of scholarships, college match, and career matching applications. Overall this is an incredibly helpful resource that is worth checking out over the summer.

"Born of Illusion" and "In the Shadow of Blackbirds"

Spiritualism, illusion, mediums, séances, and spirit photography gained widespread popularity during the desperate years of World War I and after, as devastating grief drove people to crave contact with their lost loved ones.

Both Born of Illusion by Teri Brown and In the Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters capture this "odd and fascinating foray into psychical research and Spiritualism" craze that mesmerized a nation of grieving and hopeful people. Are these powers real? or a sham to exploit money to make a living? What measures will someone take to prove or expose an authentic paranormal phenomenon?

Read about two young ladies who experience powers that confuse and frighten them, and how they come to control these dark gifts and their futures.
